Service

Someone who knows
the system — and isn't
afraid to ask the hard questions.

The healthcare system can feel designed to overwhelm. Avelis advocates on behalf of clients and families — helping them understand their options, communicate clearly with providers, and ensure every voice is heard and respected.

Most patients leave appointments
with more questions than
they came in with.

A 15-minute appointment moves fast. Medical language is dense. The power dynamic between patient and provider often makes it hard to push back, ask for clarification, or say "I didn't understand that."

For older adults — particularly those managing multiple conditions or cognitive changes — this gap between what providers say and what patients and families actually understand can have real consequences for their care.

Avelis closes that gap. We join appointments by phone or video — asking the questions that matter, documenting what's said, and debriefing families afterward so everyone has clarity, not confusion. Virtual accompaniment is equally effective and removes geographic barriers entirely.

We hear this often
"My mother nods along in appointments but tells me she has no idea what the doctor said."
This is more common than families realize — and it's exactly the situation Avelis was built to address.
We hear this often
"I didn't want to push back on the doctor — but something didn't feel right."
That instinct deserves a voice. We're the voice when families feel they can't use their own.

Advocacy across every
critical moment.

01
Telephonic & Virtual Appointment Accompaniment
An experienced Avelis coordinator joins medical appointments by phone or video — listening, documenting, ensuring all concerns are raised, and debriefing the family afterward with a clear summary. Telephonic and virtual accompaniment is a recognized, effective model used by patient advocates nationwide.
02
Healthcare Decision Support
When facing a diagnosis, a treatment decision, or a care transition, families need information — not pressure. We help clients and families understand their options, the questions to ask, and what different paths actually mean in practice.
03
Provider Communication Support
Helping families communicate clearly and effectively with medical providers — ensuring concerns are raised, follow-up questions are asked, and that clinical recommendations are genuinely understood before anyone leaves the room.
04
Second Opinion Guidance
Navigating the process of seeking a second opinion — identifying appropriate specialists, preparing the right records and questions, and supporting families in advocating for the level of certainty they deserve before making major decisions.
05
Insurance & Benefits Navigation
Helping families understand what's covered, what programs are available, and how to navigate the administrative side of healthcare — including community programs, financial assistance resources, and benefits coordination.
06
Advanced Care Planning Support
Facilitating thoughtful, supported conversations about advance directives, care preferences, and planning for future healthcare decisions — so that when difficult moments come, families are prepared and a person's wishes are clearly documented.

What families ask about
healthcare advocacy.

Does Avelis advocacy mean going against a doctor's recommendations?
No. Advocacy means ensuring that clients and families fully understand recommendations, can ask clarifying questions, and feel empowered to participate in their own care. We work with the medical team — not against it. When concerns arise, we help families raise them professionally and constructively.
How does telephonic or virtual appointment accompaniment work?
We join the appointment by phone or video call — either conferenced in by the client, or called in directly by the provider's office. We listen, take detailed notes, ensure all concerns are raised, and provide a full debrief to the family afterward. Many providers are familiar with and accommodating of telephonic advocates. You don't have to be in the room — or even in the same state — to have someone fighting for your loved one.
Is advocacy available as a one-time service?
Yes. We offer advocacy accompaniment as a standalone service for families who need support for a specific appointment, diagnosis conversation, or care decision — without requiring a full membership. We also include advocacy support as a core component of our Comprehensive and Concierge membership plans.
