Companion Care

St. Petersburg, Florida
"Not supervision — genuine presence. A steadiness that keeps your loved one grounded throughout the day."

Presence is not the same as proximity. Being in the same room is not the same as being truly there.

Dementia companion care is for those who need more than safety monitoring — who benefit from real conversation, gentle activity, and the kind of unhurried attention that keeps them connected to themselves and their day.

Avelis companions are matched for personality as much as skill. They bring patience, genuine curiosity, and a willingness to follow the lead of the person they're with — entering their world rather than pulling them into ours.

Companion care is not babysitting. It is not passive presence while someone watches television alone. It is not a check-in.

It is active, attentive engagement — adapted in real time to how someone is feeling, what they're able to do today, and what brings them a sense of calm, meaning, or joy. That looks different for every person, and it changes from day to day.

Our companions know how to read those shifts — and how to move with them.

A familiar face.
An unhurried day.

i.
Matched by Personality
We pair companions not just by availability or geography, but by temperament, interests, and communication style — because a good match makes all the difference in how the day feels.
ii.
Engagement That Fits the Day
Conversation, music, walks, familiar tasks, looking through photographs — companions follow the person's energy and mood, never imposing structure where flexibility is what's needed.
iii.
Dementia-Informed Communication
Our companions are trained to meet people where they are — responding to the emotional truth of what someone is expressing, even when the words themselves don't fully land.
iv.
Consistent Relationship Over Time
The same companion returns. Familiarity builds trust — and trust builds the kind of ease that makes companion care genuinely therapeutic, not just occupational.

For those who need
someone to be
present with them.

Isolation is one of the greatest risks for people living with dementia. Companion care addresses that directly — with regular, reliable human connection that is warm, gentle, and on their terms.

  • Individuals in early to mid-stage dementia who benefit from structured social engagement
  • People living alone or with a working family member who need daily company
  • Those who have withdrawn from previous social activities and need a bridge back
  • Families looking to supplement formal care with meaningful human presence
  • Individuals for whom isolation, anxiety, or agitation has increased noticeably
  • Those who still have rich emotional and conversational capacity, and deserve someone to meet them there

Straightforward.
No surprises.

Companion care is priced by the hour, with a minimum visit to allow enough time for genuine connection to develop. Rates reflect caregiver experience and the nature of the engagement.
