About Avelis
What exactly is Avelis Private Care — and how is it different from a home care agency?+
Avelis is a nurse-founded healthcare support and concierge company — not a traditional home care agency. Rather than sending hourly caregivers to perform tasks, we provide coordination, advocacy, wellness oversight, and clinical guidance. We're focused on helping families navigate the healthcare system, organize care across providers, and ensure their loved ones are supported proactively — not just reactively. Think of us less as a staffing service and more as an experienced, dedicated healthcare guide for your family.
Who founded Avelis, and why?+
Avelis was founded by a registered nurse who spent years inside the healthcare system watching families struggle through a system not designed to help them. Patients discharged without real follow-up. Families scrambled to understand care plans written in clinical language. Providers operated in silos while families tried to hold everything together. Avelis was built to fill the gap that the medical system consistently leaves for families — with clinical insight, genuine coordination, and concierge-level support.
Who typically benefits most from Avelis?+
We work best with families navigating complexity — a loved one managing multiple chronic conditions, a recent hospitalization, a transition to aging in place, or a situation where care has become too scattered and overwhelming to manage alone. We're also a strong fit for adult children living remotely who want trusted, informed, and consistent local eyes on their parent's wellbeing and care.
Is Avelis a non-medical service?+
Yes. Avelis provides non-medical healthcare support, coordination, advocacy, and concierge services. We do not provide skilled nursing care, medical treatment, therapy, or licensed home health services. Our nurse-founded background informs how we think and what we observe — but our services are support-based, not clinical. We complement the medical team; we don't replace it.
Our Services
What does care coordination actually include?+
Care coordination through Avelis includes organizing your loved one's providers, records, and appointments into one coherent picture — tracking referrals, following up on recommendations, preparing clients and families for appointments, facilitating communication between the care team, and providing regular family updates. It's the connective tissue that the healthcare system rarely provides but families desperately need.
Can Avelis support someone managing more than one chronic condition?+
Yes — and in fact, this is one of our most common situations. Managing multiple conditions across multiple providers is exactly where our coordination model adds the most value. We hold the full picture across all conditions and care teams, so nothing falls through the cracks between providers who aren't talking to each other.
What does healthcare advocacy mean in practice?+
Advocacy means ensuring that clients and families fully understand their options, can ask the right questions, and feel empowered to participate in their own care. In practice, it looks like attending appointments with your loved one, taking detailed notes, ensuring all concerns are raised, helping families understand what was said afterward, and supporting them in navigating difficult decisions — second opinions, care transitions, advance planning, and more.
Can Avelis work alongside an existing caregiver or home health agency?+
Absolutely. Many of our clients already have caregivers or receive home health services. Avelis works alongside those providers — coordinating communication, providing oversight, and ensuring the overall care picture is organized and coherent. We're collaborative by design and work well with any existing care structure.
What does a wellness check-in involve?+
Wellness check-ins are structured, purposeful visits — in-home or virtual — during which we observe your loved one's physical presentation, cognitive functioning, mood, nutrition, medication adherence, home environment, and overall wellbeing. After each visit, we provide a written summary to the family. Over time, these check-ins build a documented baseline that makes early recognition of changes much more reliable.
Membership & Pricing
How does membership work — and is there a long-term commitment?+
Membership plans are billed monthly with no long-term contracts required. We believe families should stay because the support is genuinely valuable — and most do, because it is. You can adjust your plan, pause, or cancel at any time with appropriate notice. All memberships begin with a personalized onboarding assessment so your plan is tailored from day one.
Does insurance cover Avelis services?+
Avelis services are typically private-pay. Medicare and most standard health insurance plans do not cover care coordination or non-medical support services as we provide them. However, some long-term care insurance policies may cover these types of services. We're happy to help you review your coverage options during your consultation — and we can provide documentation of services for your records.
What are the membership plan options?+
We offer three monthly membership tiers — Essentials (starting at $249/month), Comprehensive (starting at $549/month), and Private Concierge (starting at $1,100/month). We also offer à la carte options for families who need focused, short-term support: a 30-day Recovery Bridge package, a one-time Care Assessment and Plan, and standalone Advocacy Accompaniment for individual appointments. All pricing is starting points — your actual plan is discussed in the context of your unique situation.
Can I upgrade or change my plan over time?+
Yes — and this is very common. Many families start with a lighter plan and move to more comprehensive support as needs grow. We conduct quarterly plan reviews and proactively recommend adjustments when your situation changes. The goal is always the right level of support at the right time.
Getting Started
What happens during the first consultation?+
Your first consultation is a complimentary 30-minute conversation — no pressure, no pitch, no obligation. We listen to your family's situation, ask a few thoughtful questions, and share how Avelis might be able to help. If we're a good fit, we'll walk you through the next steps. If another resource would serve you better, we'll tell you that too. There's no wrong place to start.
How quickly can you begin supporting our family?+
In most cases, we can begin within a week of your initial consultation. Post-hospital recovery situations often carry more urgency, and we do our best to accommodate families in transition quickly. If you know a hospitalization or discharge is coming, reach out early — even before it happens — and we'll help you prepare.
My parent insists they don't need help. How do I approach this?+
This is one of the most common situations families bring to us, and we understand it well. Sometimes framing Avelis as a resource for the family — rather than a service for the parent — helps lower resistance. In other cases, an initial consultation with Avelis as a neutral, professional third party can reduce some of the family tension around the conversation. We're happy to talk through the best approach for your specific situation.
Do I need to prepare anything before reaching out?+
Not at all. Come as you are. You don't need a list of diagnoses, a care history, or any specific information prepared. The first conversation is simply about understanding your situation — we'll ask what we need to know and guide the conversation from there.
Tampa Bay & Pinellas County
What areas does Avelis serve?+
Avelis serves families in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Gulfport, Seminole, Largo, and throughout Pinellas County and the greater Tampa Bay region. In-home visits are available across our service area. Virtual services extend our reach for families managing care remotely or for clients with mobility considerations.
My parent lives in a different city or state than me. Can Avelis still help?+
Yes — this is one of the most common situations we support. Because all Avelis services are delivered by phone and video, we support families regardless of where the client or the family members live. We join appointments by phone, conduct wellness check-ins by video, coordinate with providers remotely, and provide regular written family updates. Distance is never a barrier with Avelis.
Can you navigate healthcare systems and resources for my loved one if they live outside Florida?+
Yes. Care coordination and healthcare navigation are not location-dependent — they're knowledge and process dependent. We know how to work with hospital systems, navigate insurance, track referrals, coordinate between providers, and connect clients to community resources across the country. For Tampa Bay families, we also bring deep local knowledge of the regional healthcare landscape.
Medical & Clinical Questions
Can you really conduct a home safety assessment virtually?
Yes — and it's more effective than many families expect. We conduct home safety assessments via video call (FaceTime, Zoom, or Google Meet). The client, or a trusted person of their choosing, walks us through the home on camera while we observe, ask specific questions, and document findings in real time. We've found that clients and family members are often more comfortable in this format, and it removes the geographic barrier entirely. The assessment covers all the same areas as an in-person visit — entryways, living areas, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, and emergency preparedness.
How does telephonic or virtual appointment accompaniment work?+
We join the medical appointment by phone or video — either conferenced in by the client before the appointment begins, or called in directly through the provider's office. We listen, document everything discussed, ensure all prepared questions are asked, and flag any concerns in real time. After the appointment, we provide a full debrief to the family. Telephonic patient advocacy is a widely recognized and accepted model — most providers are familiar with it and many actively welcome it.
Does Avelis provide medical care or replace a doctor?+
No — and that's an important distinction.+
No. Avelis provides non-medical support, coordination, and concierge services. We do not diagnose, treat, or prescribe. We work alongside and in support of your loved one's medical team — never instead of them. Our nurse-founded background informs how we observe and communicate, but all clinical decisions remain with the licensed healthcare providers involved in your loved one's care.
What chronic conditions does Avelis support?+
We support clients and families managing a wide range of chronic conditions — including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, COPD, dementia, Parkinson's, cancer, renal disease, and others. Our role is to coordinate and support around the condition, not to treat it. Our nurse-founded model means we understand these conditions and can help families navigate them with greater clarity and confidence.
Will Avelis communicate with my loved one's doctors?+
With your loved one's consent and authorization, yes. We can support communication with providers — flagging concerns, preparing questions, following up on referrals, and helping families understand recommendations. We work respectfully alongside the medical team as a coordinating and communicating resource for the family.
Can Avelis help with medication management?+
We provide medication organization assistance — helping clients organize, understand, and track their medications, supporting adherence, and flagging potential discrepancies or concerns to the clinical team for review. We do not administer medications or provide medication management as a clinical service — that falls within the scope of licensed home health care.
